Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Please pass this on to anyone interested (Students, Teachers, Parents)
For the first time in its 10 year history the Kelowna Dragon Boat Club (KDBC) would like to invite junior paddlers to form teams and compete. Our goals are learning this ancient and exciting sport, experiencing growing together as a team, and having fun.
Dragon boating has a 2000 year history and a growing number of people all over the world enjoy this unique sport. It combines an amazing amount of benefits. Many parents, teachers and students have asked us to provide an opportunity for students to take part in this sport.
Dragon boating is a non contact full body work out. As physical strength is often offset by better skill, people of all walks of life can compete against each other. The experience of 22 individuals growing together as a team, supporting each other and working together is a unique experience that none of us active dragon boaters would want to miss.
We are very excited to offer students from 13 to 18 years the opportunity to experience our sport. Due to the principles of our club and many volunteers we can make this experience very affordable. for Students can take part for only $5 a practice ($30 in total). No further equipment is needed because the KDBC will provide everything.
We invite all schools and organizations to form teams of paddlers between the ages of 13 and 18
The junior season will include 6 practices starting in April and end with a Kelowna Junior Cup race in June. If individual teams are interested regional and international races are available in the future.
Every team will need:
· 20 paddlers (plus spares) students male or female
· 1 drummer student – will receive additional training
· 1 steersperson (student) student – will receive additional training
· 1 team organizer (teacher, parent) to be the contact person for us, parents and the school. This person will help to make sure all team members receive up to date information and arrive at the practices on time. No paddling experience is required although this role will likely get you hooked on the sport and we are happy to find an adult team for you J
The KDBC will provide
· The use of the boat, paddles, PFD (Life jackets) for practices and race
· Expert instruction by certified dragon boat coaches
· Kelowna Junior Dragon Boat cup
The cost for the season is $660 per boat. Practices will be held out of Tugboat Bay (Downtown) one day a week either at 5 or 6 pm (depending on the number of teams)
Please pass on this message to anyone interested and contact me at your earliest convenience. We will be happy to come to your school to present dragon boating and this project to teachers, parents, and students.
Dragon boating brings together people in communities all over the world. As the many Kelowna adult paddlers will gladly confirm the sport gives a unique opportunity to combine many advantages.
We are looking forward to hearing from you!
